Top 7 things I missed:
1. Delivery services – Be it bagels, FroYo, laundry, pizza, sushi or a 6-pack; I missed it all.
2. Business hours – I prefer a city that never sleeps; it seems to work better with my internal clock.
3. A real winter – No offense San Francisco, but there were still leaves on your palm trees.
4. Walking everywhere – Turns out, I no longer budget for fuel expenses, the money that was spent on gas came directly (and regrettably) out of my ‘fun shopping’ budget.
5. Overly aggressive men – Almost four weeks in Cali and I don’t think I was publicly propositioned for sex at all. One guy stopped me to tell me that I was his “dream woman,” but let’s be honest, I could get that in Kansas City.
6. The Brooklyn Brewery. SIX beers for $20 is nothing to scoff at.
7. The MTA – BART just doesn’t cut it. Who’s the genius that thought upholstered seats were a good idea on public transportation? Not a New Yorker, that’s for sure.
(Boston Sam, San Diego Philip, Ashley Lynn and Jenna in the BK-izzle.)
(San Francisco. Sigh.)
As for my extended-stay in California, I still totally love it. And while I love Jay-Z, Empire State of Mind will never be as cool as Hotel California but Biggie always trumps 2Pac, ALWAYS (big ups to Brooklyn). As a matter of fact, I loved being back in the Golden State so much that I decided to write a rebuttal blog about it.
Top 7 reasons why I still heart CA:
1. Moderate temperature – Wearing ballet flats in the middle of December without looking like a complete jackass is literally a dream come true.
2. Work – Actually taking a lunch EVERY day and leaving by 6pm? Yes, please.
3. THREE WORDS: Lady GaGa concert.
4. NYE – Way to offer the three F’s: Fireworks, friends and free drinks. You did me proud San Francisco.
5. Mexican food – I love it very much. Let’s also take a minute to appreciate the fresh produce that makes the salsa and guacamole oh-so-delicious.
6. Location, location, location – Really appreciate you housing all of my favorite people within 100 square miles. This makes visits home both convenient and fuel-savvy. Special shout out for no one living in LA this year, there’s only so much a New Yorker can do in those flatlands.
7. Hella – I love being able to say it and not have a stuffy New Englander raise a hella bushy eyebrow at me.
